As I start this blog I must add that without Paul and his Wife it would not of been possible, thank you so much for coming over.
Paul and wife own the Peugeot Planet 2000 (and now upgraded to the joint PSA version).
This is the first time ever I have seen the diagnostics port on ANY car, and this is the first car of mine to actually have one of these.
Not sure I like how modern cars are becoming but I suppose it makes things like this a little easier.
I must add also that I am aware of the car having two faults, an intermittent ABS fault (the reason for it being taken to a garage last year, as well as the acceleration clip fault) and the Air bag light keeps coming up.
I had cured the air bag fault when I found it the first time, the wiring loom under the passenger seat needed ''jigging'' - that's a technical term that, jigging.
Sure enough, on next fire up the light went out no probs. However it is back, so may need a closer look at it.
Now, in the beginning I was a little worried that the PP (Peugeot Planet) was taking a while to connect with the car's ECU. I was extremely worried that despite the obvious signs the car had survived the battery problem that in fact it had damaged the BSI as I feared.
However, after an agonizing wait it communicated and well.
The Air Bag Control Unit had flagged up a problem stating it was the 'incorrect ECU' suggesting someone has already changed it and installed the wrong one (interesting, I know!)
The rear right hand wheel ABS sensor also flagged up a problem. Which, despite it being a pain in the ass to jack the car up to gain access, at least I now know that the sensor is at fault, it could of been a number of problems with the ABS and this at least is easy-ish to do.
Paul has kindly cleared ALL the faults on the ECU.
With Paul gone I set to look at the air filter. I took off the bolts and sure enough, the air filter has seen better days, so less than £5 and I have a new one on it's way. I also noted that the oil filter looks very dirty and I will replace all filters at the same time as giving an oil change. Going to get dirty I know (LOL) but it will be worth it, definitely.
While I have the back jacked up on axle stands I can inspect it as best as I can, checking the pads, the CV boots and everything that else that could fail it on MOT day (when ever that is).
I need to be 100% sure she is going to pass before I take her.
I have more tools coming to me (Yes - I agree, it sucks ass to start again!) these include a 1/2 drive extension bar, crow bar (arrived today), Wheel chocks, air filter as said, filter masks and tarpaulin.
Whilst I am cleaning the brakes (possibly replacing the pads) there is a serious health risk with asbestos and the dust coming off the brakes, so glasses and a mask must be worn. Another dirty job but if done right (I won't, I will NOT doubt my ability again) it will be worth it.
I recently had a set to with someone who accused me of not knowing what I am doing with cars, fair play I don't - I only know what I read about but I am trying damn hard to understand my car. I may not be a fully fledged mechanic but I don't pretend to be either. I love my cars and I love driving - there is nothing difficult to understand about that.
So what I work on my cars, I don't HAVE to know what I am doing to do a good job. I have a Haynes manual, a handbook and a forum FULL of Paul and wife's to help me should I need it I will ask for it.
And on another note, I also don't give a flying fuck I am ''obsessed'' with Peugeot's. I've had three so far and NOT ONE has let me down, why stray away from a brand that has protected you so far? Yes, okay - my car needs some work which I am happy to do - what car doesn't? We all get sick, and there is no perfect car out there whose gasket won't blow or whose starter motor won't fail. The more they are looked after the more they look after you. I'm sorry I am far from a professional at fixing MY cars, I am also very FAR from being stupid and not knowing an oil filter from a fuel filter, or a starter motor from an alternator. I understand most of my car, I need to understand the engine much better but at the moment, why bother reading about the engine when I have other jobs I need to do. My engine is in tip top condition. My car has not moved in 10 LONG months yet she's stayed there, as good as faultless. Peugeot's don't rust half as bad as crap Fords. If Ford was ALL it was cracked up to be, why close the main factory down Southampton?
As the saying goes, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
With that rant over, I am signing off. Work will commence tomorrow on the car, hopefully when my parts come.
